THE MUSIC INDUSTRY : THE WAY FORWARD FOR UNDERGEES AND PLAYERS INVOLVED.

The entertainment industry is a billion dollar industry which has evolved over the years. Artists have gone from buying airtime from tv stations just to play their videos to uploading videos onto Youtube for monetization. As for their audio tracks which would be heard just about once in a month on a radio station, streaming platforms like audiomack, boomplay and spotify have helped to resolve that issue.

Even though industry players usually assume that the little advancements are enough to take our crafts global, I strongly believe that as a country, we're not there yet. Top acts like Sarkodie who have made it out there haven't been able to make any significant impacts out there. What's the cause?

Is it because we have a new crop of musicians who have all turned away from our style of music and have adapted the ways of the Westerners in this case the Americans. Every rapper wants to be the second Jay Z or Eminem instead of aspiring to be the first of their kind. Frankly speaking there are a lot of young talented rappers and musicians out there but until we learn to accept who we are and start working towards that, our entertainment industry will remain at this point for a while.

The Nigerian music industry had to hit the reset button when they saw that things weren't going well for them. They went back to what they knew had to do well and out of that project emerged Naira Marley whose songs are making waves in the country. I think its high time industry players sat down, artists sat down and artist management sat down and planned on how to sell the real Ghanaian story to the world because that is what the world wants to hear not some fake stuff they keep hearing in their own countries.

They call me Koku.
